Lydia (Lidy) Hanson, age 12 (1722 – 1824), Dover, New Hampshire. Silk on linen, Lidy Hanson lived to be 102 and was a much celebrated centenarian. If a woman survived childbirth, epidemics, and never had a bad accident, she had a good chance of living well into her 80’s, but 102 was as unusual then as it is now. Photo by Martin Lewis
