NGMiddleAmanaMuseum3

An 1863 house, part of the Amana Heritage Museum and site of the Amana Colonies’ only surviving communal kitchen, located in Middle Amana. The home accommodated four families. The home still retains a trellis, seen at right. Trellises, ubiquitous in the colonies, accommodated grapevines, useful for food and wine and for cooling houses in summer. c. Nadine Godwin
